Milestone Victory: 2018 Basketball A Division

Our A Division Basketball Boys played a total of four matches with Hwa Chong Institution, Eunoia Junior College, Catholic Junior College and Hwa Chong International School respectively.

It was a tough period for the boys because of all the intensive training they had undergone during the season. From shooting drills to practising the offensive and defensive set plays, the boys were getting themselves ready for the games in every way possible.

However, the first game did not go as well as they hoped it would be. For the first match against EJC, RV lost by 20 points and this served as a wake up call for the boys. They knew they had underperformed and were desperate to secure the wins for the next few games. For the following matches, they had the mentality that they had nothing to lose and definitely, they went all out and did their best. Eventually, at the match against HCIS, they played way better than their first game and it made all their hard work worthwhile.

One of the players mentioned that although they did not make it to the next round, he was still happy as he witnessed improvements in the team and there was never a regret during the entire season. He was glad to see a “never say die” spirit in the team and he wished that this burning passion will take them to a higher level next year.

Brimming with hope for the coming year, they aspire to become one of the top 4 teams for the A Division 2019. All the best, boys!

On Monday, 23rd April 2018, our RV Basketball A Division Girls fought with vigor in their first match against National Junior College (NJC) at the Singapore Basketball Centre. The tension in the air was palpable as the girls took their respective positions on court. Our players’ faces were glistening with sweat on court halfway through the game but they continued to give their all throughout the game.

Though they did not manage to take down the match against NJC, our girls displayed true mettle, remaining undaunted in front of a formidable opponent.

The girls mentioned that their most memorable match was against Millennia Institute (MI). It was extremely nerve-racking and the girls could feel the sizzling tension till the very last second of the game. During the match, they tied twice and the lead kept changing between RV and MI; after 5 minutes of overtime, Team RV emerged victorious with the score 46-34. “It was really heartwarming to see everyone so united together, with an undying fighting spirit till the very last second,” one of the players reminisced fondly.

After claiming victory in the match with MI, Team RV continued their winning streak in the match against Eunoia Junior College (EJC), winning with a score gap of 36 - 23. “Trainings were physically and mentally taxing but we always had each other to count on and together, we’ve been through so much and come so far,” recounted the players. Their blood, sweat and tears during each training session were definitely reflected in their remarkable achievements on court.

Subsequently, our girls went on to play against Hwa Chong Institution (HCI), Nanyang Junior College (NYJC) and Victoria Junior College (VJC). The last match against VJC was especially close with a score gap of 19 - 21.

RV Basketball A Division girls ended their season with an overall National Top 8, a first in recent times. This has marked a milestone not only for the CCA but for the team as well. Their coach was satisfied with the overall performance and the girls were proud of their hard-earned accomplishment. “The effort we’ve put in for the past 5-6 years, which nobody sees, has finally paid off this season. This achievement is even more precious to us as we are the second last batch of basketball girls left. Nevertheless, we will continue fighting next year,” declared the team with pride.

Team RV had definitely exceeded expectations by clinching the position of National Top 8, and we look forward to Basketball A Division girls’ next season in 2019!
