Inside Out

I am colourful

On the inside,

I promise.

I am not

the sepia photograph

Slammed and damned

On their shelves

Look at me!

I am not

A part of the furniture

alloyed into the walls

Of endless grey

Look at me!

I am not

My midnight paintings

Of Prussian blue

Look at me!

I am

The faded lilac iris

You forgot to water

Did you really forget?

Look at me!

I am

The mustard coat

In that store that doesn’t

welcome me anymore

Look at me!

I am

the raging red river

in my veins

that is no less human

than yours.

Look at me?

I am colourful

On the inside,

I promise.
