The End

The end was in sight

but where was the beginning?

I trailed the end of the yarn to dead ends;

And had to start from the beginning.

From that end I embarked once more

To ends that frayed in different directions

The split end I chose

ended in a tangle

Unravelling the tangle

led to more tangles

Like constellations

some might say

But that’s stretching it a little far I’d say-

This wasn’t even a rubber band

No, they were more like

little balls of hair left behind in a shower

Or one of those stick insects

Not a pretty sight

And not a sight

Of the end-

On and on I went

I’d lost track of the tangles when –

finally –

I was able to find

the end that was the beginning.

The End
