On 16 January 2016, RV celebrated its very own 60th Anniversary with an amazing line-up of Homecoming activities and energetic performances put up by RVians. At 4pm, the Homecoming segment kicked off the celebrations. It featured photo and game booths designed to stir up nostalgic memories for the RV alumni who returned to their alma mater many years, even decades, later. For some of them, it was also their first time stepping foot in the Boon Lay campus. In addition, current RVians and several alumni also contributed to the lively mood at Homecoming with exuberant song and dance performances, filling the school compound with music and laughter.Amongst the list of distinguished guests, including alumni from the pioneer class of 1956, alumni-turned-artists who contributed their art pieces for an exhibition, and invited guests, Acting Minister for Education (Schools) Ng Chee Meng graced the event as Guest-of-Honour.The highly-anticipated performances commenced at 6.45pm with much excitement from both the audience and student performers alike. Following an introduction by the emcees, the performances rolled out in orderly segments - first the marching parade by the Uniformed Groups (UGs) and River Valley Concert Band, followed by Festive Drums, Freestyle Drill (FSD), Wushu and finally, Dance. Ending the performances on a sweet note was none other than the Grand Finale which involved all 1,500 performers coming together as one to dance to a rearranged version of the school song. Joining them in the grand finale were members from the River Valley Chorale, Chinese Orchestra and String Ensemble, who performed the song in perfect harmony. When the song reached its final note, the audience seated at the grandstand showed their appreciation by giving the performers a standing ovation. As thunderous applause and cheers resounded throughout the field, the performers faced the audience, smiles on every face. While each person may have had different takeaways from being a part of the RV60 celebrations, one thing is certain - the RV Spirit shines bright in every one of us, and it will continue to do so for as long as we hold RV close to heart. Happy 60th Birthday, RV.
