A star for the Star
If you’re looking for good food, excellent service and a conducive place to study, work or hold small gatherings, you’re looking for L’etoile* Café. A stone’s throw away from Farrer Park MRT, L’etoile is a convenient, easily-accessible café that offers a cozy atmosphere and a break from the mad Singapore crowd.
First impressions
Situated at the end of Owen Road, this café was a little tricky to find at first. The ground floor of this café offers a friendly and light-hearted ambience, especially if you enjoy natural air. L’etoile may be along the road, but there is little noise and no smell of car gas due to light traffic. If you’re the Arctic type who deems air-conditioning to be a necessity, head upstairs: the second floor of this two-storey café greets guests with a cool atmosphere and lovely décor with a mix of French and Japanese styles – altogether a very vintage look. The books on the shelves are free for customers to read and catered to all types of reading tastes – from anime to fiction to non-fiction. A couple of titles that caught our eye were the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling, some classics and a few books on Japanese history and culture.
L’etoile is a café for everyone. Do you wish to take a break and just relax? Grab a cup of coffee and a seat on the couches in the corner. Do you want a space to study undisturbed? Settle down beside the window with a mug of mocha or hot chocolate. Are you trying to find a place for a small gathering? Come gather at the long tables perfect for conversation and merry-making.
Bits and Bites
Brownie from L'etoile
L’etoile offers a variety of food and drinks in the menu - from coffee to alcohol, breakfast and definitely dessert. Certainly, you can’t get food at the Kopitiam prices here. Main course on average costs about $20, but it’s pretty worth it. Laksa costs $8, and the portions are decent too.
A Glittering Memory
If you like a cozy atmosphere, somewhere quiet and the concept of R&R, L’etoile is a must-go. RV Student Editorial Club held its first holiday CCA session on Tuesday, 15 December at L’etoile Café. We stayed from 11am to 3pm, and not once did it feel like we had overstayed our welcome. The staff is friendly, the service is excellent and the food leaves your stomach happy. Most importantly, the ambience is great for us to chit-chat and do our writing.
Members of the Student Editorial Club – Us!
Thank you L’etoile Café for making our first CCA session at a café a successful and memorable one. For those of you who have yet to visit, hurry down to take a look before the crowd comes!
